AIP New York City

 

The Academic Internship Program in New York City offers the opportunity to spend the summer living and working in the city that never sleeps! AIP has partnered with the Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI) to assist students in securing internships related to their academic and career interests. All majors are welcome.

Earm Academic credit and experience first-hand one of the most exciting cities in the world. New York has something for almost everyone as the center of global finance, media, arts, law and business. The city is home to the United Nations, Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. New York's diverse population, museums, restaurants and theaters create a cultural atmosphere that is unmatched.

 

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you complete the following requirements by the start of the spring quarter prior to the summer in which you go to New York.

- 90 units

- At least 2 upper-division courses

- 2.5 GPA

 

Applications

In order to participate in AIP NYC, you must apply the winter quarter previous to the summer when you plan to intern. You may begin the application process before you have met all your AIP's eligibility requirements, but all requirements must be met by the quarter preceding your intenrship.

Earning Academic Credit

Students participating in AIP NYC remain enrolled at UCSD and may choose to earn 4, 8 or 12 units of credit by producing a research paper/project related to their internship experience.

All participants pay UCSD summer session fees and may remain eligible for financial aid. The additional costs expected while in New York are cosidered when determining financial eligibility and the amount of aid awarded.

Housing

UCSD students will have the opportunity to live with over 800 students and interns from around the world at the Hotel St. George in the heart of scenic Brooklyn HEights, just one subway stop from Manhattan. The St. George Residence is a residential hotel located in the most beautiful section of Brooklyn, footsteps from the shopping and restaurants on Montague Street and a short walk to the Brooklyn Promenade.

 

Program Fees:

Summer 2006

Program Fee- $3,450

 

The Program includes:

- Airport Welcome

- Shared Accomodation housing with access to kitchen facilities and an on-site Resident Director

- Orientation in NYC

- Internship placement and supervision

- Subsidized social/cultural activities

- Access to computers, e-mail and internet facilities

- 1 week starter METRO card that can be used with all NYC public transportation (buses and subways)

- $450 non-refundable deposit

 

The Program Fee does not include:

- Round-trip air fare

- Meals

- Personal expenses such as laundry, telephone, etc.

- Ongoing transportation expenses (beyond the starter METRO card)

- UCSD Summer Course Fees**

 

Payment Schedule for KEI fees:

Non-refundable deposit- $450 due with final application by MARCH 17, 2006

Balance of KEI fees- $3,000 due by APRIL 17, 2006 (you will be invoiced directly by KEI)

 

**UCSD Summer Session Fees:

(subject to change)

(approximately) $140 per unit

$25 one time Summer Session Technical Fee
