Housed in Thurgood Marshall College, the Public Service Minor is open to students from all colleges who seek to understand the history and practices of public service and work toward developing civic skills. As a required component of the Public Service Minor, the three-quarter (or 18-units total) internship in the non-profit or government sector allows you to gain valuable hands-on experience and knowledge in the field. The internship’s extended length allows students to develop an in-depth understanding on methods and practices in addressing social issues. Assistance is provided in locating and securing an internship through the Academic Internship Program Office.
To view details and requirements for declaring the minor, please view the Public Service Minor homepage.
What is the PSM Internship?
Public Service Minor internships (AIP 197P) comprise of three quarters (or 18 units total) in a developmental internship related to your specialization within the minor. Specialization areas are:
- Social Issues
You have the option of either interning within one organization for all three quarters or at different organizations each quarter within the same specified field. These dedicated internships are a great opportunity to contribute to the community while exploring your personal career and academic goals.
* You may be able to count an academic internship that you have completed through AIP, UCDC or UCCS towards one of the PSM internship requirements.
Begin the Application Process Early!
You must apply to AIP the quarter prior to doing your internship. Public Service Minor students are strongly encouraged to meet with their AIP counselor and apply early to ensure you secure an internship well suited to your academic and career goals. To participate in a Public Service Minor Internship, you must meet the following AIP requirements by the quarter prior to your internship:
- 90 units completed
