Katelyn

AIP Peer Advisor

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Katelyn is a third year Marshall student majoring in Public Health. Upon enrolling into UCSD, Katelyn was an English major, but fell in love with healthcare after taking several courses in biology, chemistry, and public health. When she was exploring this interest, Katelyn volunteered for a year at the Scripps Memorial hospital, where she experienced first-hand patient and healthcare professional interaction. In her second year, Katelyn took part in a club called Medical, Education Missions and Outreach (MEMO) which provides patient care, volunteering at educational organizations, and opportunities to aid underserved communities locally and internationally. At the end of her second year, Katelyn received an internship through AIP from Dr. Eric Zorrilla at the Scripps Research Institute to do a systemic review and meta-analysis on the relationship between alcohol and COVID-19. As somebody who struggles with mental illnesses and identifies as queer, Katelyn advocates for mental health awareness, LGBTQ+ rights, and help for the intersectional struggles that these communities face. In her free time, Katelyn enjoys rescuing kittens with the Orphan Kitten Club and analyzing canonical literature.
